Retoucher Technical

Job Summary:

As Technical Retoucher you will be responsible for ensuring all required imagery for artworks are technically correct for the print process, and if known, the Printer and their print specification.  You will work with Design and Artwork and advice when required, (or you see fit) for imagery work to be setup efficiently so to avoid unnecessary re-work later in the process. You will have thorough knowledge of min & max dot, creation of spot colour channels (DCS) and will understand the effects of different print processes. You will be passionate about retouching, colour work and technical requirements with an exceptional eye for detail.  You will be able to manage your own workload and to hit deadlines within an extremely fast paced art studio.

Overall Responsibility:

  • To manage the new US retouching work and assist with, when required, creative EU work.
  • To work with the Global Production Director to improve processes around colour profiles and setting up RT for print more effectively.
  • To produce creative, accurate and beautiful images to tight deadlines and within budget.
  • Work with and understand printer profiles to achieve this.
  • To ensure min and max dot for every image is correct to print process.
  • Creation of spot colours channels (DCS) when required.
  • Utilise GMG proofing device to ensure colour accuracy.
  • Responsible for product imagery, processing, retouching, and comping and print profile if available.
  • Demonstrate speed and accuracy of cutting out images.
  • Colour correction and creating natural looking images.
  • Manage a high volume of work at a fast pace to a consistently high standard, ensuring that all requirements of the brief are met.
  • Liaise with account managers and provide full details of images used for π
  • Ensure file construction is up to standard.
  • To support and manage the repro responsibilities when required and as cover.
  • Support the PQM process to help evaluate measure colour.
  • Identify software solutions for supporting technical retouch.
  • Establish technical proofing for the international team, independent from the main office location.


Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of technical retouch experience
  • FMCG packaging retouch experience
  • Passionate about retouching/imagery
  • Comping ingredients together to create serving suggestions advantageous
  • Desktop colour separation (DCS) experience essential
  • Full understanding of working with Min and Max dot
  • Full understanding of all print processes & reprographics and impact on images
  • Portfolio showing quality pieces and various types of retouching
  • Portfolio showing complex colour correction/channel work desirable
  • Used to working in a fast paced, high volume creative environment
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop/Creative Suite/MAC experience
  • Knowledgeable about colour work/correction
  • Knowledgeable about image size/quality and lighting
  • Highly creative with good visual awareness and a keen eye for detail
  • Knowledge of digital photography would be advantageous
  • Experience of applying mid dot% and working with printers ink limitations (total ink coverage) advantageous
  • Commercial awareness
