Colour & Technical Manager

Job Summary:

Colour & Technical Manager, providing technical guidance, artwork, repro production services internally. You will be responsible for the technical development of new Designs and ensuring all our files are in line with Printer requirements and client aspirations. You will work collaboratively with Client Service, Design, Artwork, the Client and the printer, guiding and offering technical efficient solutions. You will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of repro across the required clients work and for ensuing the team are able to implement effectively. You will also have experience and be able to create and complete repro-ready artworks. It is anticipated that the role will be 50% production and 50% management.

Overall Responsibility:

  • Provide packaging repro & print technical consultancy, support Design with Design file set-up, technical parameters (number of colours min line weights etc…)in line with the relevant print process.
  • Support Artwork in the implementation of Repro requirements at artwork stage
  • Pre-production assessment of all work
  • Create technical briefs (mark-ups for artwork to follow)
  • Technical approval of artwork and repro
  • Provide packaging repro & print technical consultancy to clients as required
  • Print challenge resolution and point of escalation for any print quality queries
  • Value optimisation and colour harmonisation utilising PQM technologies
  • Organise and lead pre-production meetings to assess print feasibility of new designs/projects, establishing and confirming technical brief
  • Approve artwork masters against technical brief
  • Support the Creative Artwork role for managing Master Artworks into Artwork Dept
  • Responsible for the production of packaging repro (primary) and artwork (secondary)
  • Responsible for the production and management of packaging proofing
  • Support the Operations Director with the colour management strategy to ensure best in class service for our clients.
  • Responsible for contributing to the continuous improvement of Colour Management hardware and software, ESKO, PQM, GMG, Colour Profiling
  • Knowledge of Colour profiling and management of Printer profiles
  • Able to communicate at all levels, with the Printers, internal Depts and when required Clients
  • Experience of working with online project management and approval systems
  • Expert knowledge of packaging artwork & repro software, including the Adobe and ESKO suite of production tools.
  • Technical understanding of all packaging print processes, materials and formats
  • In depth knowledge of colour management, harmonisation, measurement and proofing
  • Exceptional eye for detail and meticulously high-quality standards

Management responsibilities:

  • To provide internal technical support to Client Service, Desing, Artwork, Retouch, QC
  • To ensure all Depts are fully trained and understand technical requirements associated to artwork
  • Provide technical training to all new starters and refresher training sessions for existing members of staff
  • To ensure Esko is fully utilised including auto trapping and all artwork are trained to provide repro requirements as part of artwork.

 

Proofing responsibilities:

  • To manage and develop the Colour Proofing and profiling service
  • Ensure all Profiles are up to date, Epson devices are calibrated and maintained

 

Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant packaging Artwork & Repro
  • 5 + years of colour management / similar technical role
  • Expert FMCG packaging experience.
  • Experience of checking packaging artwork files for printability in a fast-paced environment is essential.
  • Expert knowledge of packaging artwork and associated printing technologies. For example, from a background as a packaging/technical artworker or have print reproduction experience.
  • Experience of working with Clients and printers
  • Expert knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Expert knowledge of colour separation, file set-up and supply using spot colour channels.
  • Demonstration of precision and excellent attention to detail from photography, typography and file set up to follow the client’s guidelines and requirements.
